Marta Ghirardelli and Michele Chierici are the founders of SANTELMO.

Marta was born in 1991 in Vimercate, a city near Monza. She studied architecture at the Politecnico of Milan and is specialized in complex constructions.
Michele was born in 1991 in Milan. He studied nautical engineering at University of Genova at the branch in La Spezia.

By working in their respective sectors they were able to define their vision and in 2021 they launched their own business initiative.

SANTELMO was born from the idea of offering the nautical market a high-tech green product with a recognizable design.

Our boats are designed as complex living organisms with the need to communicate and peacefully co-exist with a wider ecosystem of living beings: the sea.

SANTELMO interacts with its own environment by designing yachts that have less impact on the ecosystem, because they’re made of aluminium alloy and equipped with fuel cells powered by green hydrogen.

Aluminium is 100% reusable ad infinitum and safe throughout its life cycle, from construction to disposal.
Fuel cell electric powertrain delivers excellent performance, with no noise, unpleasant smells or vibrations, and the only ‘waste’ produced is water. Green hydrogen is produced using energy from renewable sources.

SANTELMO pursues this approach by constantly researching
cutting-edge technologies and developing designs intended for those who want to stand out.

The brave are those who redefine the concept of impossible.
These are the people who daringly transform challenges into concrete possibilities, improving the present for the benefit of future generations.

The patron saint of sailors Sant’Elmo inspired the name of the company: SANTELMO.

One day, Marta and Michele were having a boat excursion in Sardinian’s sea. They saw blue flashes appear on the end of the masts of a few boats.
On the horizon the sky was grey, a storm was coming.

The old man who was steering the boat told them that the blue flashes were Sant’Elmo’s fire, one of Nature’s most fascinating manifestations of electricity.

In the past people believed the blue flashes were a good omen. The blue flashes signaled the presence of Sant’Elmo who watched over them through the storm.

Sant’Elmo connects sailors from all periods of time.
